Family Ties

Got the call late Thursday, 5th biopsy NO rejection! So happy! Jim and I are still walking at UAB, mostly at night when there is no traffic in the halls.
Friday we took a mini vacation to the Riverchase Galleria. We drive a whole 15 minutes to get there. We ate and the kids built a bear. We walked the whole mall twice. We were exhausted.
Saturday the Murrell family got together. It was the first time in nine years since Jim, his brother Jerry and his sister Sherry have been in the same room at the same time. It was funny, embarrassing, and sweet all at the same time. Jerry kept Jim laughing. Paw Paw was in his own world and we got to take lots of pictures.
Today my mom and her husband, Spurgeon, came to visit. It was a great visit. We got to talk about when I was little, our crazy family and our dogs.
Now we are off to VBS at Adamsville church of Christ. Super Excited!
Thank you God for one more day with my silly singing husband.

Great News!

Fourth week in a row NO rejection. So happy when Jim got the phone call.
Got to talk with Dr. McGiffin who did the surgery today. What a happy, sweet man.

We celebrated on Sunday, June the 23rd a month since his transplant by worshipping God. Jim was asked to lead the opening prayer at the Adamsville church of Christ.

We feel blessed beyond measure to continue to hear the doctors say that they are so pleased. Dr. Tallaj says that he is way above the curve.

He still has pain in his chest from time to time and some nerve pain in his leg. Other than that he is doing great.

In the past 8 days, I have walked over 18 miles. That is because I am trying to stay by his side as he walks. Isn't that CRAZY?

We serve an Amazing God. We are so thankful to have this time. We know we have a long road ahead but with God, we can do all things.

Thank you God for one more day!

Did God Answer Our Prayer?

June the 5th we were able to leave the precious nurses and staff of the HTICU. It was a sad time and a happy time. They take care of you just like you are family, really better than family. Jim ended his time there with the bell ringing ceremony. The link below will allow you to see it.

These programs are Jim's way of preaching and teaching despite being in the hospital or stuck in a room for most of the day.
We were able to stay in a UAB town house for about 2 weeks when a friend of some church friends offered us his condo in Birmingham for free. He is allowing us to stay there for the remainder of our time until the doctors say we can go home. What a blessing!

We didn't have internet access at the townhouse and Internet access and time is limited at the condo. We are at the clinic two to three days a week. It has all been good news, just tiring being at the clinic that long and having that many tests.

We feel blessed beyond measure. It is hard to describe what Jim looks like and feels like. He is so white. I knew he used to be gray a lot but I didn't know how bad it was until now. Even his feet are really white and they used to stay blue. He is walking about 2 miles a day. He still has to rest because he had major surgery but WOW, can you believe it?

The first adventure we had upon leaving the hospital was going to church. The doctors said not to but you know Jim. In his Alabama pajamas and all (of course with his mask on) we made our way to the Adamsville church of Christ. We sang and heard a great lesson. It was so great to be at church with my husband. He has always been there no matter how bad he felt. He had been in the hospital for 34 days straight. We are so blessed because it could have taken longer and it could have been harder but even when things got bad God was and will always be there. He had all things worked out. He was just preparing us the entire time. We have seen the bad times but now we have an opportunity at a new life.

So many have said either with their mouths or in their cards "God has answered our prayers." I beg to differ. God has answered our prayers all along. Since September 30, 2006, Jim has been here to be a preacher, teacher, husband and father. He wouldn't have made it to see one day without your constant prayers on our behalf. God has been saying YES all along. Yes to more time, Yes to a day at a time, Yes to a moment at a time. God knows more and has all things worked out for good to those who love him. Those who love him will keep His commands. By every ounce of our beings we strive to do that. So God has and will continue to answer our prayers.

What if? What if God said Jim needs to go home to be with the Lord. Would we say God didnt answer our prayers. I doubt that we would. Jim would have gone to a place where there is no suffering and no pain. Would that have been bad? Shouldn't we all long to go there? I hope we can understand that God is pulling for us. He is our biggest cheerleader. He is on our side. He does not have an evil motive. He wants good for all of us. We sometimes put God in a place where if this  happens He is good and if it doesn't...well we get mad at Him. Shame on us. We are the ones who have put requirements or a fence around what God can or should do.

I pray that through this experience we can continue to grow more spiritually mature. God is so good and He is our constant provider. Prayer works all the TIME!

Today marks 4 weeks since Jim's transplant. So blessed!

Thank you God for one more day!

Leaving UAB

We are scheduled to leave UAB tomorrow. We will head to a townhouse or apartment. We will have to stay there for several weeks. We will have to go to the doctors office and have tests atleast 3 times a week for the next few weeks. This way Jim can have a little freedom but still be close for all his appointments.

Church Family

We are blessed beyond measure by our church family the world over. From Singapore to Oregon, from Florida to Virginia, from Texas to Illinois...brethren continue to bless us with gifts, cards, financial donations. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

We pray that God will pour His richest blessings on all of you for your faithfulness to help those in need.

These pictures are from the gift bucket from the Bremen church of Christ. Acts 2:44.

Happy Anniversary

Only one week and one day after transplant, I surprised Jim with an anniversary surprise. Thanks to Sheri Harris for making the pound cake, preparing the strawberries and cool whip. Most women would be horrified to know that their husband forgot their anniversary. I was hoping Jim would not remember. I know he has been through a lot so I figured he couldn't keep up with the days.

The children and I set up everything in the HTICU waiting area. The flowers were from our yard. Thanks to Cille Powers for sharing her plants with me. Music was provided by the ipod. Julianna hit it right when he rounded the corner. Julianna was the photographer capturing the moment.

Sixteen years...can't believe it really. My love for him has grown sweeter. He is my best friend, the love of my life, my life coach, my spiritual leader, and my funny man. Before you think I am all sappy we still have our rumbles but we have learned to get it out and get over it. So thankful for all your prayers to keep my husband here with me and the children. He is a true blessing. I have so much to be thankful for.
